Growing Independence Together
For our curious toddlers
In the Wallaby Room, your curious toddler steps boldly into a world brimming with questions, discoveries, and “I can do it!” moments. Between the ages of 2 and 3, children’s personalities shine, their imaginations bloom, and their desire for independence blossoms – and we’re right there to guide each step.
Our loving, highly qualified educators nurture essential social skills through play, conversation, and group experiences that encourage kindness, sharing, and empathy. Self-help skills are celebrated – from learning to dress themselves, to mastering toileting – empowering your child to feel capable and confident.
Every day is rich with wonder, as we feed their natural curiosity with meaningful experiences, hands-on learning, and engaging conversations that spark a lifelong love of discovery. Here, your child isn’t just cared for – they are supported, celebrated, and inspired to take their next leap forward.
Little Explorers
Life in the Wallaby Room is about finding balance between a toddler’s need for independence and their comfort in knowing caring adults are close by. At this age, children delight in copying, trying, and testing—whether it’s pulling on their own socks, stirring during cooking, or joining in a favourite song. We encourage these moments of “have a go” learning, gently guiding each child to feel secure, capable, and proud of their progress.
Strong friendships begin here too. With patient support from educators, children learn the give-and-take of play—sharing toys, helping friends, and practising kind words. These early social skills become the building blocks of community and belonging.
Our spaces are designed for choice and confidence: open shelves for little hands, cosy corners for retreat, and outdoor play that invites running, climbing, and exploring. Every day is carefully balanced—structured enough to feel safe, yet flexible enough to follow children’s ideas and energy.
A Day in the Wallaby Room
In the Wallaby Room, toddlers thrive in a warm, responsive environment that supports their growing independence and social development. Educators follow the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and QCE’s Programming Procedure to offer a balanced day of routines and rich play experiences.
Children are encouraged to:
- Make choices and participate in daily routines
- Develop language through stories, songs, and group time
- Explore creatively through sensory, art, and music play
- Build gross motor skills with climbing, running, and outdoor play
- Engage with nature and begin learning to care for Country
Care routines such as mealtimes, rest, and toileting are calm and respectful, building trust and emotional security.
Families as Partners
Families remain at the centre of everything we do. In the Wallaby Room, daily updates share your child’s discoveries, friendships, and growing independence. Open communication with families supports consistent routines between home and care. Every new word, brave climb, or shared laugh is recognised and valued—building the confidence toddlers need to explore, connect, and thrive.
